Over the last few of years many of our Glam Friends have consistently asked our Wax Glaminators questions regarding the wax procedures they perform. Some of the most common questions from our (clients) aka Glam Friends were related to pre-waxing care, so, let’s discuss 7 of the most relevant pre-waxing care tips.
1. Exfoliate
Few people know how important exfoliation is for successful hair removal. Skin is always renewing its cells, but superficial old skin cells need some help to be removed. Dead skin cells keep skin dull and trap sprouting hairs (causing the dreaded in grown hairs).
Exfoliated skin will be smoother and more prepared to receive waxing, so we recommend to exfoliate the area you plan to get waxed 24 or 48 hours in advance. It’s important to exfoliate in advance β because if you do it on the same day of the appointment, your skin will be recently sensitized by the exfoliation, which might be too much added to the waxing.
If you can make exfoliation a part of your daily skincare routine then you’ll have even more skin benefits. Twice a week is a good place to start. We recommend a soft scrub to avoid irritation like our GBB Scrub.
2. Watch out for these
Skin medication: medication for acne must be discontinued at least three months prior to a waxing appointment. This medication can cause skin to over-exfoliate, increasing the risk of skin ripping or lifting.
Skin problems: if you suffer from acne, eczema, psoriasis or other skin issues, you should wait until you are in remission or avoid waxing altogether. Likewise, avoid waxing on scarred, irritated, injured or bruised skin.
3. Maintain your hygiene
Bathe or shower before the procedure if possible. Try not to use harsh soaps/body washes with a lot of fragrance or colorings β and no hot water! β before the procedure, to keep allergies or adverse reactions at bay.Β
When it comes to menstruation, it is advisable to book the appointment outside of period days. This is because menstruation makes you more sensitive to pain.Β
4. Wear loose clothing
Tight clothes in synthetic fabrics are a no-no for waxing appointments. Arrive as comfortable as possible in loose clothing to avoid chafing and irritation.
5. Avoid heat, saunas, and sun exposure
No saunas, hot tubs, tanning beds as it could irritate the skin, making waxing unpleasant or increasing the risk of skin lifting. If there is a sunburn on the area to be treated, then the depilation should be postponed until it has totally healed. Sun protection is important at all times, try to wear sunscreen post your waxing procedure.
6. Trimming is optional
No need to trim. It’s best if you leave that job to us, and of course, completely forgo from shaving before your appointment!
7. Know what to expect
Upon arrival our Glaminators will walk you through the procedure that you’ve booked so and they’ll also provide recommendations post your appointment.Β
