Not all makeup is long lasting, but it’s guaranteed to last even less when you have oily skin. Here are five simple steps to help your makeup last through the day.
Prep your skin
It’s best to start by cleansing and exfoliating skin, which can help you control any excess sebum. Even the oiliest of skin needs hydration. A gel-based lotion or moisturiser will hydrate the skin without leaving it slick or greasy.
Use a mattifying primer
A mattifying primer will help conceal shine, grease, and excess buildup before your makeup application. As you shop, you’ll also want to look for oil-fighting ingredients like charcoal and clay.
Choose the best foundation
Pick between a powder and a mattifying liquid foundation. You can go as light as a tinted moisturizer that won’t slip off and leave streaks on your face.
Go oil free
Since normal skin naturally produces more than enough oil, invest in makeup products (especially foundation and blush) that are oil-free and noncomedogenic, which means they don’t clog your pores. Ask your dermatologist if cleaners and toners infused with glycolic acids, which cut down on excess oil, are right for you.
Look for “long wear”
Water and oil can do the same things to makeup: make it smear, smudge, or slip. That’s a reason to stick to eye products that are waterproof, water-resistant, or long-wear.
One of the best, long-wear combos is water-resistant eyeliner and cream eye shadow over an eye primer.
