Did you know September is National Skin Care Awareness Month? While we all have different issues (adult acne, dry skin, rosacea, etc.) there are a few tips most of us can follow for a healthy daily skincare regimen. Hint: It all starts and ends with cleansing.
Daily cleansing
Cleanse your face twice a day— gently. Cleansing when you wake up and before you go to bed helps remove oil and dirt that can irritate your skin. Choose a mild, soap-free cleanser to avoid irritation. Be sure to pat dry with a clean cotton towel.
Moisturizing and sun protection
Moisturizing is key for healthy skin. The best time to moisturize is after a shower and you have pat dried your skin. Consider using a moisturizer with built-in sun protection/SPF 30 or higher year round. And now that we’re officially approaching fall, it’s time to say goodbye to the lightweight, oil-free moisturizer and switch to a heavier cream.
Staying away from irritants
If you have sensitive skin or suffer from rosacea, avoid anything that contains alcohol, camphor, fragrance, glycolic acid, lactic acid, menthol, sodium laurel sulfate and urea. Consider finding products or makeup that doesn’t irritate your skin. You might need to make an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss your specific needs.
