Warm weather has finally arrived and while many of us are opting for fuller brows these days, everything else is coming off! Before you take on that smoothly waxed summer, there are a couple of things you should know. Check out our list of do’s and don’ts to help prep your skin for the best waxing results.
Exfoliate 3-5 days before your appointment, not sooner
You’ll find mixed suggestions about when to exfoliate before a wax appointment. To avoid irritation, we do not recommend exfoliating 24 – 48 hours prior to waxing.
Inform esthetician/wax specialist about current medication
Some medications can cause thinning of the skin, and that can lead to lifting and sensitivity during waxing. When booking your appointment, let your specialist know if you’re taking any of the following: acne and anti-aging medication such as Retin-A, accutane, differin, oral and topical antibiotics, retinol, salicylic acids or other acne medications or exfoliants.
Research the salon
For obvious reasons, you want to make sure the salon you choose is clean and safe. Estheticians should always wear a fresh pair of new gloves and replace the table covering between each client. To keep our Glaminator clients and staff safe, we focus on every small detail in our waxing techniques.
Know the difference between a bikini and brazilian wax
A bikini wax is exactly what it sounds like: hair removal along the top and the sides of the bikini line. A Brazilian bikini leaves your entire area bare and that includes top, sides, front and hard to reach areas in the back. Visit our website to see all the waxing services we offer.
Book brow appointment a day or two before special event
As much as you want fresh brows before taking photos at your next function, we highly recommend waxing your brows at least one day before your event. This allows potential redness, inflammation or irritation to go away on its own.
At Glaminator, we work with you to determine which brow shape works best for your face shape and personal style. Many of our clients are now also requesting to enhance their natural eyebrows with our Brow Lamination process. Lamination will smooth out unruly brows, while shaping them in place to appear fuller and shinier. It’s basically a perm for your brows, as it gives them a set, uniform shape for an extended period of time. Instead of curls, a setting lotion helps brow hair stay brushed up and lifted upward for about six weeks.
Don’t break wax routine
For best results, don’t shave in between your waxing appointments as it can cause ingrown hair and irritation. We also recommend a routine where you come in every 3-4 weeks.
Avoid sunbathing/sun tanning
To prevent sunburn, we ask our clients not to tan 1-2 days before and after their waxing appointment. Waxing removes the top layer of the dead-surface skin cells – just like exfoliating and can lead to visible burns. Allow 1-2 days after waxing to ensure any irritation or redness is gone before laying out in the sun.If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below.
