Which is Better: Hard or Soft Wax?

You have done your research and have decided that out of all the hair removal options out there, waxing, fits your needs and lifestyle. Now, which is the best wax, hard wax or soft wax?

Waxing salons use different types of wax and the real difference lies within the quality. One type of wax does hurt less than another. I should mention we highly recommend going to a salon who puts their clients first. Unfortunately, some just care about how much money they spend on the wax, compared to the quality, safety and comfort of their customers. Here is a little information on the various types of wax used. Our goal is to keep our Glam Friends educated so they know we have their best interest at heart. Which kind of wax does Glaminator Beauty Bar use? Keep reading to find out!

SOFT WAX

Soft wax is applied to the skin in an extremely thin layer.  It is very good for removing those finer hairs. After applying the wax it is then removed by placing a muslin strip on top of it and ripping it off.  Soft wax adheres to the skin, meaning it removes layers of dead skin when it is being pulled off.  This is why you cannot wax the same area twice with soft wax. The risk of lifting and pulling off live skin is greatly increased when this occurs. You may be left with results of bleeding, scarring and scabbing to the skin.

With soft wax, there is the slight chance of being burned because the temperature needs to be higher in order to use the wax properly. The wax itself is very sticky so it can also be difficult to remove it all from the applied area. Many tend to think soft wax hurts a little bit more than hard wax because of this feeling. Soft wax is very popular within the waxing industry because a lot of wax doesn’t have to be used on the area to get the job done. Soft wax also costs significantly less than hard wax which means the businesses have a higher profit margin.

HARD WAX

Hard wax (also known as strip-less wax) is applied to the skin and does not require a strip to be pulled off.  Once the wax dries and hardens on its own, it can be removed directly since it does not have that “sticky” issue like soft wax. Hard wax adheres to the hair only, not the skin. This means the Esthetician can go over the same area multiple times without the risk of also lifting and pulling off the skin. The waxing session is known to be less painful since the wax is not tugging at the skin when it’s being removed. Hard wax will solely pull out the hair resulting in a much more comfortable experience for the client.

Hard wax requires a lower temperature to work properly which lessens the chance of a client being burned or feel any sort of pain. Depending on the area being waxed, more wax may have to be used meaning it may be more expensive for the business to use. However, isn’t a quality wax worth spending a little more money on compared to a cheap painful wax? We think so! Hard wax is especially great for sensitive areas like Brazilian waxing, bikini waxing, facial waxing and underarm waxing.

At GBB, we use a custom blended hard wax. You will quickly see why everyone that has been Glaminated loves our wax over the rest! We invest in premium, high quality hard wax because we want to ensure our Glam Friends have the best experience when they come in for an appointment. Keeping your skin happy and healthy is what’s most important!
