Getting your hair and makeup done for your wedding day is almost as important as the dress itself! It’s your time to shine and look your very best, on one of the most amazing days of your life.
Fortunately, most stylists offer a makeup and hair trial run to make sure you’re both on the same page and so your wedding day goes off without a hitch. This is a great time to play with styles. You may be surprised to find out that you don’t love the look you thought you would or you may fall in love with it even more – it’s a time to play!
Before you go in for your trial run, check out these tips to make the most of your time.
Bring Pictures and an Open Mind
Remember, you’re going to a specialist – someone that does this for a living. While you should have your ideas and pictures to share, listen to what your stylist thinks too. If this isn’t her first rodeo, she may have some ideas you never thought of or know of issues she could help you sidestep on your big day. The point of the trial run is to let your stylist play around so you can decide together what works.
Bring your Makeup Bag
Your makeup artist will likely use her own products that she loves, but seeing what you normally use and love will help her. She may need to see the shades or she may want to see your ‘normal’ look so she can really make it different for your wedding day.
Bring your Accessories
If you’re wearing a veil, any hairpieces, or jewelry, bring it all with you to your trial run. This gives your stylist time to work with your accessories and it gives you time to see if you love how they look. You may love the accessories on their own, but once they’re on, you may change your mind or even find that you want to add something.
Get your Skin and Hair Ready
If you want your skin and hair to look their best, treat it well before you go for your trial run. Do a mini-facial at home and deep condition your hair the day before your trial (don’t wash it the day of). Drink lots of water and make sure your skin and hair are clean and ready for the stylist to work her magic.
Wear a Similar Neckline and/or Style as your Dress
You obviously won’t wear your dress to the trial run, but find something with a similar cut to bring to your trial. You’ll be able to see how your hair and even makeup looks with the style – you may find that what you thought you wanted doesn’t work or something the stylist recommends looks amazing with the style.
Most importantly, have fun! Your makeup and hair trial is another piece of the puzzle and a day to put in the memory book. Relax, unwind, bring a friend, and have some laughs as you prepare for the most important day of your life!
